Planned Giving

Wills & Living Trusts

Wills are a simple and lasting way to distribute your estate and to donate to organizations you believe in, like KMOS-TV. By creating a will or having your attorney make a simple revision to your current will, you can provide for loved ones and support KMOS-TV for years to come. You can give a dollar amount, a specific property, a percentage of your estate, or amount left over after your loved ones have been taken care of. You may also choose to name KMOS-TV in case one or more of your heirs do not survive you.

Charitable Trusts

If you need current or future income for retirement, a charitable remainder trust can provide income to you and/or a loved one for life or a specified period of time. A tax deduction is allowed at the time you create your trust. There are two types of charitable remainder trusts. With a unitrust, the annual income to the donor is variable, based on a fixed percentage of the value of the assets in the trust. With an annuity trust, the annual income is a fixed percentage of the original value of the trust and provides a fixed dollar amount income. Another type of trust is the charitable lead trust, which can be established to give income to KMOS-TV for a period of years, before passing the assets back to the donor or donor's family.

Retirement Plan Gifts

You may have a company pension plan, IRA or other private retirement plan that has accumulated funds beyond your needs or could be potentially subject to the federal excise tax on over-funded retirement plans. These excess funds may be donated during life (subject to minimum age requirements for penalty-free withdrawals) or at death. Any remaining funds in retirement accounts at death may also be subject to very high taxes if left to heirs who don't qualify as charities. A gift from your retirement plan can assist with potential retirement plan taxes while providing vital funding for KMOS-TV to ensure quality television programs. It will be rewarding to know that your legacy gift will be used to help educate future generations.

Life Insurance

Another way to make a significant future gift is by naming KMOS-TV as the beneficiary to receive all, or a portion of, the proceeds of a life insurance policy which is no longer needed for its initial purpose. You can also make an insurance gift by purchasing a new policy naming KMOS-TV as beneficiary or co-beneficiary, which will give a gift much larger than its cost.

Gifts of Appreciated Stocks

Many people have securities that have increased significantly in value from the time they were purchased. You can conserve cash for other uses and maximize the value of your gift by using these stocks for charitable giving. You can deduct the full air market value of appreciated securities and may no capital gains on their transfer to public broadcasting. This allows you to reduce your cost of making a gift or increase the amount you can afford to give.

Memorial & Tribute Gifts

The best way to honor someone special is through a gift with lasting meaning. Any of these planned giving options can be a tribute to a family member or other loved one that has been a vital part of your life. Your gift may be in memory of, in honor of, a gift of celebration for a birthday, anniversary, graduation, retirement, etc. These planned giving ideas are just some of the charitable giving options available. For more options or further details, we encourage you to contact your legal or financial professional. We want to continue our tradition of quality broadcasting far into the new millennium. Your planned giving contribution will provide a stable source of long-term funding and help make quality programming available to central Missouri families and communities.
